Dr Tariq Ahmad MB ChB, DPhil, MRCP(UK), was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist to the Royal Devon and Exeter
Foundation Trust in 2007. He qualified from Bristol University in 1992 and worked in junior
hospital posts in Bristol, Plymouth and Sydney. He completed higher specialist training in
gastroenterology in Oxford where he developed particular interests in luminal gastroenterology,
including inflammatory bowel disease, functional bowel disease (including irritable bowel syndrome),
coeliac disease and nutrition.
Dr Ahmad was awarded a D. Phil from Oxford University in 2003 for his research into the genetics of IBD.
He continues to contribute to this field through his work at the Peninsula Medical School and through
his membership of the
UK IBD Genetics Consortium
